Survival issue very well received

The Autumn issue is now available, and has received very positive initial feedback. Mary Jefferson says: ‘CONGRATULATIONS! How brave you were to tackle such a theme and how skillfully you did it! THANK YOU!’ and Stuart Veitch: ‘One of the most challenging issues, with a great variety of perspectives on the topic and each article giving a sense of expertise in its field, all with very sensitive and liberal approaches.’

Autumn issue to be published this week

The Autumn issue of Magnet, Survival, is due for publication at the end of this week. With valuable input from Barbara Glasson, the issue is one of the most challenging topics we have covered. Articles include the work of doctors in Haiti in the aftermath of the earthquake, an account of life in a refugee camp on the border of Burma and Thailand and the opportunity to come to Sheffield, City of Sanctuary, together with stories of survivors of child sexual abuse, ritual abuse and homelessness. There is worship for Harvest, an imaginative Bible study and prayer focus highlighting the work of Combat Stress amongst ex-services men and women.Subscribe now - don’t miss this interesting and challenging issue.

Advent worship resource

We are receiving very enthusiastic comments about the Advent worship resource and poster set. It comprises four A2 full colour glossy posters by the acclaimed Chinese artist He Qi and a 16 page A4 booklet with material written by Stella Bristow for use in worship and house groups for the four weeks of Advent. The material is based on the UN Millennium Development Goals.

The set can be ordered on the website. The posters are also available as downloadable pdf files for projection or printing.

We are looking for people to promote and sell the sets at local events such as Synods, local preachers’ meetings, training events. Please get in touch with Lynne or Felicity if you can help with this.

Summer issue God Talk now available

The Summer issue of Magnet is now available with worship for Pentecost, articles including storytelling, ‘yoof’ work, the language of art and much much more. Get your copy now!

Report on Women’s Network conference

Lynne and Alison were at the Moving and Travelling On conference organised jointly by Women’s Network and the World Federation of Methodist and Uniting Church Women held at Swanwick in Derbyshire from 16-18 April. It was an excellent, well-attended, well-organised event. The keynote speaker, Rev Nicola Vidamour, led 5 Bible studies and there were opportunities to join creative workshops and informative seminars around the theme.

There was a Magnet stall and a great deal of interest in the Magnet story of moving to independence. Delegates took away back copies of the magazine to spread the word further to people who may not be aware of it. Books supplied by Conversare and poster sets by Posters for Change sold well.

Two new trustees needed

We areĀ  advertising for two new trustees to join the board to oversee and develop our work. We are particularly interested in people with design, PR, fundraising or volunteer management skills and experience. There is background information and an application form in the volunteer > trustee section of the website. The closing date is 5pm on Wednesday 5 May with interviews to be held on Wednesday 19 May. Do contact Lynne on 01279 658768 or email lynne@ourmagnet.co.uk for an informal conversation or further information about the role. This is an exciting time to join us and we welcome applications from people with the skills and enthusiasm to help us reach out into other ecumenical markets and forge relationships with others whose aims and ethos are compatible.

Magnet at Women’s Network conference

Lynne and Alison will be at the Women’s Network ‘Moving and Travelling On’ conference at Swanwick from 16 to 18 April with a Magnet stand and also selling resources on behalf of Conversare and Posters for Change. The continuing connection with Women’s Network is very important to us and we support them as they move on to become Methodist Women in Britain in collaboration with the World Federation of Methodist and Uniting Church Women.

Invoicing update

Following the invoices sent out by Felicity, Warners belatedly sent their own version. Thank you to those who have phoned to make us aware of this. The correct thing to do is to pay the first invoice with a cheque payable to Magnet Resources and post it to Felicity Shakespeare, Magnet Resources, PO Box 10378, Bishop’s Stortford CM23 9FT. Please ignore the second invoice. We apologise for this duplication and confusion.

Invoices sent out this week to those who pay quarterly

We are becoming aware from subscribers who contact us that the invoices which would normally have been sent out in February were not sent (this applies only to those who pay quarterly on behalf of a number of other readers). Felicity has therefore sent out new invoices this week. Please contact her on 0844 736 2524 or felicity@ourmagnet.co.uk if there are any problems with or changes to your order. We are working very hard to get the new subscriptions system set up on the website so that in future you will have the option of managing your own account and paying directly online. Telephone and postal renewals are still welcome too, of course, we are just keen to make everything as easy as possible for subscribers with a variety of options to suit everyone. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or queries whatsoever - our attitude is that the customer is always right!
